Sustainability

Making sure we and all of the vendors we work with have sustainable business practices is at the forefront of all of the events we host at Evergreen Gardens. Every decision we collectively make has an impact on our planet and the living creatures that inhabit it. As temporary stewards of this land, we feel responsible for its well-being. This means minimizing waste, recycling, composting, redistributing leftover food, using environmentally friendly gardening practices, and supporting local businesses who are also committed to sustainable business practices.

Partnering with non-profits like Ridwell, Emerald Hour & Sustainable Connections also provides a community to continuously learn & grow our practices to further our commitment to providing a sustainable event space.

To ensure that future generations can survive and thrive in our world, we must make decisions that drive sustainability today.

Design

We have a large collection of inventory onsite and included in our pricing to help you bring your vision to life & limit the need for single-use purchases.

Using real plates and cutlery provides another way for you to be creative and incorporate your colors! Consider utilizing companies like Cranberry Sky Heirloom Rentals who offer beautiful nostalgic options.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Compost & recycling bins as well as signage are provided to help our guests and vendors utilize them properly. And we use Ridwell to recycle plastic bags and styrofoam.

Event Waste

If you have leftover food from an event you host at our venue, ask us about how to redistribute leftover food! We partner with local non-profit, Sustainable Connections, to have someone pick up leftover food and redistribute it to those in need!

Supporting Our Community

5% of each event we book is donated to the Ferndale Food Bank

Sustainability Best Practices

  • Go paperless - use evites or a website

    Use recycled paper

Avoid glitter or plastic so invitations can be recycled

  • Choose vendors that align with your values

Clearly communicate sustainability practices that are important to you

Find vendors through Sustainability groups, like Sustainable Connections and Emerald Hour

  • Shop second hand - Astraea Bridal is a great consignment shop in Mount Vernon for wedding dresses or tuxes

    Rent tuxes or dresses

Let the wedding party pick out their outfits so they will wear them again!

  • Work with your caterer to ensure there will not be too much extra food

Avoid paper menus, use a chalkboard or QR code

Provide compostable to-go containers for your guests to take extra food home

Use real plates & cutlery and our glassware instead of plastic or compostable options

    Use kegs instead of cans/bottles

Use our beverage containers for water & skip the plastic bottles

Choose aluminum can options if you choose to provide single use containers

    Avoid straws and skewers

Donate food - we can help! Ask us about our food recovery program.

  • Use ours - we have a lot of great decorations you can use and we are always adding to the collection!

Use what you have on hand and avoid single use purchases

Rent decorations from places like Wander and Bellingham Rentals

  • Ask your florist to minimize the use of foam, tape and pins

Compost your flowers at the end of the night. We have compost bins!

Use only flowers that are in season

    Use local flowers

Consider paper, wood or fabric flowers

  • Avoid branded items

Ask for donations to your favorite charity instead of gifts

Make a registry and ask your guests to adhere to it and ship to your home

Create a QR code for cash donations for your honeymoon or for a big purchase
